The No No's Blog

OK, that was a funny one. Last week's show was extremely good, and we kind of thought going into this one it would be hard to follow it. Well, Marty, Charlie, Phil, Willem & I did our best, and churned out a comparble effort.

A great mix of absurd, cerebral, physical and situational scenes flowed freely and fantastically. You can quote that...

It's hard to pick out favourites from such a raucous night, but I'll just name a few. The 'Choose Your Own Adventure" scene where Marty & I directed Charlie & Phil into realizing they were hairy brothers from the same Yeti family was tear inducing hilarious.

The Dating Game scene where I was the zombie librarian, Phil was Jesus Christ & Marty was a Twinkie salesman was one of the first times "Dating Game" turned into an actual scene as opposed to just gag after gag. It was awesome.

Bong, Bong, Bong was funny because I had absolutely no idea what Marty was acting out (it was 'I can't believe it's not butter'). I ended up saying "Don't go to a yukaflux party with horny ninjas", and that wasn't weven the most absurd.

I'll have to watch the dvd to remember more, but it was a really fun time on stage, and the audience responded well to the energy. Thanks for a great night!

Well we owe a huge THANK YOU (notice the huge lettering) to our record (and sell-out) audience last night.  Thanks so much for coming out Halloween night to see the best improv show in town!   An extra-special thanks is owed, I belive, to those who came out in costume; they were awesome.

My favourite moments of the night were Cody's can't-speak-English character - nickname "Friday!" - and Marley bringing Mario into World of Warcraft.   Two great moments.   A come-from-behind victory for my team (*takes a moment to gloat to Cody*) caped the night off well, a night of scary (or scarier/scariest) improv.

We'll be back to our regular format next week, and we hope to see you there!

Friday night's show was a lot of fun all around.  One stand-out moments for me was the fractured fairytale (Goldilocks and the Three Scarabs - the ancient Egyptian version of Goldilocks) which featured Jenny's amazing description of "flaxen gruel."   That one killed Max!   I also really enjoyed interpretive dancing "Cody's shirt" with a little musical support from the rest of the cast backstage - thanks team!

Our thanks, as always, go out to everyone who is coming out and supporting us week after week.  We'll see you next week at the Haloween War!!!

Well that was fun, wasn't it?  Our season-opener went off stupendously last night.   Everyone onstage had a blast and the audience left laughing!

For those of you who weren't there, we've decided that this season the No-No's will try a slightly different format for our shows.  At 11pm, we will start with a 20 minute opening-show, the Quasi-No-No's, captained by familiar faces Marty and Jordan, and featuring the "new-blood" of our troupe.  This way, you will have a chance to get to know our really tallented new members who we just can't wait to introduce (and maybe win some free stuff along the way)!  After the 20 minute opening act, you'll have 10 minutes to get another drink before the regular cast will take to the stage!   The audience loved it last night and we can't wait to try it again!

We hope to see you every Friday at 11pm at the Off Broadway Arts Centre for more No-No's comedy!

The No-No's are gearing up for the fall. Watch for us to be back on stage at the Off-Broadway Arts Centre in late September/early October.

Start saving your pennies too, as we will be revealing our t-shirts for sale:
1 for $15 or 2 for $25

They feature our logo, and one of four quotes taken directly from one of last seasons shows.

"Cinderella! You forgot your converse."
"Get up, this isn't Vietnam!"
"It's discoloured after just one use."
&
"I'm a tougher bitch than that!"

Collect them all! Or at least one... They will be for sale at the entrance desk to the theatre.

You can also just ask your favourite member, or the most accessible, because Phil isn't always easy to find.

Love,
us.

Thanks for a great season! We hope to see a sell out crowd pack 'em in for one last fling before we take a summer break. We can't wait for this show, as it has been building all year to this point. WE intend to go out with a bang, and a whole bunch of surprises so make sure to make an appearance.

See you Friday night!

Wow, my first time onstage with the No-No's (when I wasn't hosting that is) and what an experience!  It was a great time with some excellent scenes: turkish delight, ex-navy seal Burger King employees, and a pink elephant.   Thanks to all who came out for yet another fun night of improv.  Remember, only a few shows left in the season, so come on out!

One of our best all around shows ever. We had a great time, with a great audience. It started out with a fantastic round of switch, which culminated in me becoming the bobsled for the Jamaican team, and everyone jumping on.

Party Quirks also went really well to start the games, and we were off to a great start. Lots of laughs and good improv followed.

One of our best scenes ever was performed as we re-enacted Cinderella, set in the 70's. Brice was Cinderella, Willem played the evil stepmother, and then a very funny Fairy Godfather (giving offers she couldn't refuse), Cody and I were the mice, who turned into horse (while smoking 70's weed), and Phil got to play Prince Charming. The whole fairy tale got played out, with lots of great reference gags between the original, and the 70's. It finished off with a great line by Phil, yelling after Cinderella that she'd forgotten her Converse shoe.

It'll be hard to top this one, but we will do our best next week. Thanks to all who came out, and congratulations on witnessing a great show.

Well, a great show to hold everyone over for the Easter break.

Everyone had solid moments, however it was Phil who was really on. Together, I did my best to keep up in the emotional styles game where he started out with "roid rage". A good scene all around.

Actually, quite good scene work tonight for a lot of games, although we have personally sworn not to play 'standing, sitting, lying down' ever again; I don't think we're good enough ;)

Klaas and I had a good Alphabet game. The whole group also really enjoys the 'scene replay' where we start out with a basic open scene - tonight it was giving birth in a jungle. Then we did variations on it, using different groups of two. It repeated with suggestions of: A soap opera, Elizabethan times and finally with Phil and I playing the entire scene displaying the emotion of terror.

We look forward to getting back on stage April 4th, and running through the rest of our season, every Friday up to May 30th. Keep checking the website for updates.
