The No No's Blog
Well, it was a shaky start, everyone wanting to come firing out of the gate. It was a lot of fun to have the former Flying Fish members join back for a night, Ari & Jamie had some great moments.
We, the old team, feel Charlie the host did a wonderful job officiating, although the crowd seemed a wee bit less than enthused by the final result. Our close fought victory was clawed back and won in the 2nd half, after the Young guys dominated the first act.
Personally I enjoyed the Superheroes scene best for it's overall quality. Having lost our salt, Slug Boy (Klaas) was not a suspect for obvious reasons, 14th Century Sailor Man (Jamie) could have been - the 'salty' dog, but alas it was the sweaty Panting Guy (Willem) who absorbed and then perspired out the salt, who was to blame. You are all lucky you didn't see the horror of his salty skin coming into contact with Slug Boy.
A very close 2nd for me was the guilty pleasure of Jamie and I tossing around some youngsters like rag dolls. This was the human prop scene, where we bent Emma and Joey into previously unthinkable positions, as we held them aloft.
I am sure we will have some comments to follow this competition, and all that's left to add is... We have one more WAR! at the end of the season, May 30. A true Civil War between all of the current No-No's troupe members for final supremacy (at least until the fall season starts up again).
We will see you every Friday in between, 11pm. Thanks to everyone for the support, and another sold out show.

during our february 22nd show willem and i had a bit of a showdown. it was awesome! here's how it went down:
recently heartbroken and frightened of my encroaching 30s, i tackled my fears the best way i know how: i made fun of myself.
unfortunately (or, fortunately for the audience) so did willem, and a battle was on. thanks to a clever audience suggestion, though, i emerged victorious!
we played a game of Story Story Die, during which actors are given personality quirks they have to incorporate while telling a story. the one who can stay in character the longest and most effectively wins the game. and a clever audience member suggested i be WILLEM. it was amazing. i was a genius. and willem will never mock me again.
After a whole whack of last-minute substitutions, we ended up with a great house and a fun show all around. I don't think anyone will soon forget the Greek siege scene to which we were treated! Nor will the wisdom (I suppose you could call it that... I guess) imparted to us by the Great Oracle be forgotten for awhile.
It was my first time hosting the No-No's and what an experience! I can tell you that I really felt welcomed when I got a penalty just for being onstage. I was thankful for a supportive cast behind me and an audience willing to play along. I'm looking forward to being onstage again soon, especially if the cast has the type of show they had on Friday night!
Packed house last night -- an excellent crowd also (rowdy, but not obnoxious). It was great that (unbeknownst to me) my wife invited a whole bunch of our friends to the show, and despite the cold, around 15 or so showed up.
There were some great laughs last night, and I can't think of one scene that fell flat. In the pseudo-sexual football scene, when Phil flipped Klaas over his head in slo-mo I thought we might go off the rails in a very painful way; but to his credit, Phil pulled it off without any serious injuries-- and the contrast between this and me smiling and giving the ball gently to Emma was hilarious.
Emma pinch hit for Willem (who was ill) last night, and she was great - especially considering it was her first time with the cast (much better than I was my first time, that's for sure). Kudos to Emma.
Best of all, my wife was forced to endure merciless ribbing from our friends about "getting busy" with Mickey and Barney (unless you were at the show, you can't really appreciate why this is so humiliating for her). As she has been know to "dish it out", so to speak, this should provide them with snappy comebacks for years to come.
I'm hoping next week goes as well as this one did -- it was "Dino"mite!
Egads. A good word to sum up the show, and also, coincidentally, the exact point when said by Jayden during his "Old English" marriage counsellor bit, that Nyk and I turned to each other and said "well, this one's over." The barrage of haymakers dealt out, and Amy's clever justifications to keep the story consistent, brought the house down.
Up until that point it was a close race. Normally we write about highlites, but upon reflection, I can only think of one dud, and we'll leave that to the history books. Everyone up there had really solid moments. Let's get the minor negative comments out of the way. 1. Not much actual scene work, but the flow carried us where it needed to go, and that just didn't happen. A minor quibble to most in attendance. 2. We apologize for the 'bluer' than normal show, but once a line gets crossed, sometimes there's no turning back.
Having said that, we would be hard pressed to come up with a comparable night. There was no shortage of talent, wit, originality and in this case good ol' inter-city competition. The atmosphere our wonderful crowd brought was electric from the get go. Stomping and cheering as we all burst on stage, it set the tone for a boisterous theatre that rocked all night.
A huge thanks to the Regina folks who made the trip. It's safe to say Jayden, Amy, Rob, Chris and the other Rob would be welcomed back for a rematch, when we find a time that works in the future. Also, thanks to our crowd for not letting any animosity spill onto Reginans (how could you vote for them - traitors!).
A well deserved victory, to add to the plaque. We'll remember this one for quite awhile to come.

So at 6am Cody, Brice, Jenny & Max waltzed in and took over CBC Radio one studios, feverishly pumping out a script for a 8:15am performance. It was hectic, but we managed to make it happen, amongst much laughter from sleep deprivation and high test caffeine intake.
To hear our end result, performed live by said cast members (plus guest appearnces by CBC personalities Brittainy Robinson {a wonderful on the spot singing of "Sunshine & Lollipops" as Ditzyus} & Jennifer Quesnel {nicely justified short of sunlight as Cattyus}), click on the following link:

Pleas click below, on the "add a comment" option, and give us your suggestion. Remember, we will only take suggestions posted during the show Monday morning, between 6-8 am. Thanks.
Be sure to tune in to CFCR in the coming weeks to hear our brand new radio ad!

Last show of 2007, and we finished nicely. Not a huge crowd, but very vocal and interactive. To be expected for 4 days before CHristmas, so thank you very much to everyone who came out.
I got to play around with the lights and music tonight so not too much to report other than I appreciate Kevin more than ever. He deserves a raise.
Great work by all involved, and kudos to Marty for his 2nd show. It went well.
My favourite scene tonight had to be the final one with the "head in the bucket" switch. It's always funny. The water bucket, and holding their breath never fails to produce a genuinely funny situation. It's new every time, and it's funny every time. Ben was the last to know tonight, and he looked quite surprised as he emerged soaking wet to a concluded show. He was ready to jump right into his scene, but we were all standing around, show's over...
See you guys back on stage, January 25th for WAR! against the Regina All-Stars.
